A control transformer steps the incoming supply down to a stable control voltage for contactors, relays, timers, solenoid valves, PLC I/O and indicator circuits, while electrically isolating the control circuit from the power circuit. It is designed to hold its secondary voltage during the high inrush current drawn when contactor coils and solenoids pick up.
